Eggs Lower WI River Valley

Eggs detail

Eggs of the Nesting Birds of the Lower Wisconsin River Valley

182 egg species adorn this piece of heavy silk organza, which has been printed with plant life also found in the region. The eggs are arranged in a decorative pattern and hand painted with fabric paints rather than dye. This creates the illusion of a more dimensional egg, and a nice contrast to the silky surface on which they sit.

The diversity of sizes, shapes and patterns is especially intriguing when you see the various species represented side by side. And, because there is also variety of color and pattern within species, some are represented twice. There are actually 187 individual eggs on this length of cloth, which is suspended from a solid cherry hanger.

A species list and identification key accompany the piece.

The entire piece measures 45"w x 72"h.
